As Christians, Jesus commissions each one of us to be an evangelist. The Greek word evangelion means ´good news´ or ´gospel.´ A related term that Christians use is "witness." A Christian is a witness to who Jesus is and to what He does in people's lives.
"Again Jesus said, ´Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.´ And with that he breathed on them and said, ´Receive the Holy Spirit." John 20:21-22, NRSV
(Many people get nervous about sharing the gospel with others; you need not be…)
In 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, Paul says this about our sharing : "My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with the demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power."
In order for our words to be effective we need to rely on God's power through the Holy Spirit. We can also evangelize through our actions. When we genuinely care for someone and build a relationship with them, then they are much more likely to have an open heart for what we have to say about Jesus.
We want to encourage you to step out in faith and be a bolder and more loving witness through your actions and words.
