Leadership
NPC is on the growing edge when it comes to leadership development. Both paid and unpaid (volunteer) church leaders work in collaborative teams.

Membership in a ministry or mission team depends on one's spiritual gifts and passions. In this way, the actual NPC ministries and missions are run by hundreds of people serving in, or in association with, ministry teams. People are empowered to serve Christ in team-based ministries. The NPC staff are among the best in their particular fields of ministry. Each one brings excellent education and experience mixed with a deep love for Jesus Christ and a commitment to serve the Church.

The following pages include the names of the core leadership team but is not a complete list of the many many members who serve Christ at NPC. We can't thank them enough for their time, talents and tithes that help make it all happen.

Program Staff

Reverend Samuel A. Schreiner III
Pastor and Team Leader

Sam grew up in a family of Presbyterians in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He gave his life to Christ at the age of 15 while attending a winter camp run by Young Life. Attending seminary in New England (GordonConwell, outside of Boston), Sam fell in love with this region. A Presbyterian minister since 1983, Sam has only pastored churches in New England (two in New Hampshire before coming to Noroton Presbyterian Church). Sam has also been a lecturer at GordonConwell Theological Seminary, in the Department of Ministry and is on the board of Vision New England.

He and his wife, Deb, have three children. Abby is on the youth ministry staff at The Third Presbyterian Church in Richmond; Samuel is in business in Boston and Jack is attending College in New Hampshire. Sam has been a volunteer in missions to Ethiopia, Kenya, Taiwan and New Zealand. In 1999 he was also a volunteer on the inaugural year of an archeological dig in Israel (Project Zeitah). Sam’s passion for sports led him to coach youth soccer and play third base for his former church’s softball team (they retired his number when he moved). When he isnt preaching and encouraging disciples of Jesus Christ, he can be found reading, walking his dog "Gus", or rooting for the New England Patriots.

You can reach Sam via email by contacting him at sschreiner@norotonchurch.org.

Constance M. Jordan-Haas
Associate Pastor of Adult, Women and Mission Ministries

Connie’s roots are in eastern Pennsylvania. She and her family were actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem. The discipleship of that congregation coupled with the formative experiences of a Presbyterian church camp in western Pennsylvania shaped Connie’s faith in Jesus Christ. She remained in PA through her undergraduate years at Swarthmore College and then headed to New England to Harvard Divinity School. It was there that she met her husband, David, with whom she shares ministry at Noroton. They each served congregations in Ohio following seminary and then came to Noroton in 1991. Over her tenure, Connie has been involved in many ministries of the church. Her primary areas now include ministry in mission, studies with women and overall pastoral ministry.

Connie and David, in addition to sharing ministry, share in the joy of raising their two daughters, Julia Elizabeth (11) and Mary Grace (4). When Connie is not ministering, you might find her driving Julia to dance lessons or choir, taking Mary Grace to a playground, walking, reading a good book, riding bikes with her family, driving down to the Bronx Zoo, eating French toast at the Sugar Bowl, or enjoying a 'date night' with David.

You can reach Connie via email by contacting her at cjhaas@norotonchurch.org.

Gregory S. Doll

Gregory M. Doll
Associate Pastor of Adult Spiritual Formation and Outreach

Greg grew up in a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, was confirmed in the Lutheran Church, and reared in a home where Jesus Christ was always at its center. He had a life-changing encounter with Christ as an eleven-year-old while attending a summer basketball camp. From that moment on, Jesus became "the preoccupation" (to borrow Tozer's term) of his life. After high school, Greg enrolled at the University of Kentucky with the primary intention of playing football and the secondary intention of pursuing a degree. During his junior year at UK, while serving in leadership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, he began to sense a call to ordained ministry. He completed his M.Div. at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1999, and was ordained by the Presbyterian Church (USA) in May of 2000. Prior to his arrival at NPC, Greg served as the pastor of churches in North Carolina and Ohio.

Greg and his wife, Kimberly, have three young children: Eliot, Amelia, and Simeon, as well as a faithful dog named Joe. He is a self-professing bibliophile with special interests in works of history, theology, literature and poetry. He also has a particular fascination with the aesthetics and architecture of sacred and academic spaces. On his days off, your best chance of finding Greg is with his family. If he's not with them, you might check the library, the treadmill, the trout stream, or Fenway Park.

You can reach Greg via email by contacting him at gdoll@norotonchurch.org.

David S. Jordan-Haas
Pastor of Caring Ministries

There is a bumper sticker out on the roads which reads, “Grace Happens”. How true! For David, grace happens with the gift of growing up in a small, Midwestern town, and with the gift of 3 siblings and parents (his dad, a retired professor and preacher; his mom, a retired school teacher and church leader). Grace happens with the gift of seminary (Harvard Divinity School) and, while there, falling in love with Connie (David’s wife and partner in ministry at NPC). Grace happens with the gift of falling deeper in love with Jesus Christ throughout the valleys & peaks of the journey. And, grace happens with the miraculous gifts of two daughters, Mary Grace (age 4) and Julia Elizabeth (age 11).

At NPC since 1997 David, an ordained UCC pastor, delights in serving alongside truly gifted Stephen Ministers, Parish Visitors, Deacons, and a wonderful staff. Prior to NPC David served as an associate pastor in Ohio and as the Protestant chaplain at Fairfield University from 1992 to 1996. In 1997 David received certification in spiritual direction at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation. In Darien with Connie since 1991, David enjoys life-around-the-house time, daddy-time, Sabbath time!

You can reach David via email by contacting him at djhaas@norotonchurch.org.

Barbara Z. Geraghty
6/6/52 - 2/11/08

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith…
The Apostle Paul from II Tim. 4:7

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Monday, February 11th, our beloved sister in the Lord, Barbara Geraghty, Director of Children's Ministries, finished her fight with cancer and passed on to be with the Lord. Her love and faith and influence were felt not only in her family and her church family, but all over this community. I know that Tom and Brian are grateful to Barbara’s many friends who came around them in love and support as they faced the loss of Barbara's mother, Bette, and tried to battle back against the cancer. If human love could have held her here, Barbara would not have gone. But the love of God has welcomed her home and with that we take comfort in our loss.

We know many of you have prayed for Barbara, some of you with your family or children and now you might be wondering what to share with them. Children will look to us for clues about how to handle such a loss. Grief and loss will surface with strong feelings and tears for some, and with quiet inner sadness for others. It is important to feel free to talk about how we will miss her but we should also share how we are grateful for her faith and the Lord's promises to welcome her into heaven. Barbara's faith was always at the forefront of her life and we should remember that too. The last part of the passage I shared with you from II Timothy 4:8 reminds us that when we give our lives to Christ, as Paul did, we too find "in store for [us] the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to [us] on that day."

Grateful for Barbara,
and now for her release into God's loving arms,

Sam Schreiner
Pastor

Valerie Muller
Director of Congregational Life

Valerie was born in Washington D.C. and raised in western Pennsylvania. Her early schooling in a coal mining area outside of Uniontown morphed into middle and high school education in/around Pittsburgh, which culminated at the University of Pittsburgh.

Valerie was raised in a Christian home, and made a personal commitment to Christ around age 11 at summer camp in Erie, Pa. Always active in church youth groups, Valerie attended Young Life in junior high, and ultimately became co-leader for Club and Campaigners for a number of years.

Valerie’s career started in event planning at a Pittsburgh department store and evolved into strategic account/media planning at an advertising agency. Valerie lived in San Francisco (where she left her heart one vacation) and Marin County for 6 years, enjoying a wide range of outdoor activities, before her advertising/marketing career brought her back east in 1979. She resided in NYC for 12 years before moving to Rowayton, CT in 1994.

Valerie’s love for outdoor activities, particularly water-related sailing and rowing, led her to choose the southern Fairfield County area. She also enjoys cooking and entertaining friends in her home. Post 9/11 she began consulting in marketing/media/advertising as well as trainer/facilitator work which she continues in addition to her work here at NPC.

Valerie participated in NPC women’s retreats, Bible studies, Norwalk shelter soup kitchen, and as-needed meal preparation prior to officially joining the church early in 2007. This led to small group study, and working with the Communications Committee on Strategic Planning for NPC.

She is prayerfully discovering God’s plan for her involvement at NPC, and looks forward to meeting as many members of the congregation as possible!
