Youth Mission Opportunities |
| |
For many years, the youth of our church have been engaged in meaningful mission experiences and trips including earlier work in a different part of the Dominican Republic. In addition to local service in and with a variety of ministries, in 2005, the youth will be participating in at least four events that will broaden their understanding of mission as well as spread the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
In response to the staggering statistics of world hunger (every day 29,000 children die of starvation, malnutrition and diseases related to hunger), the youth participate in two FASTS to raise money towards famine relief during the year:
- Senior High 30 Hour "Famine"
- Middle School 24 Hour "Famine"
Youth may directly participate through abstaining from eating. Other members of NPC may support the youth through prayer and sponsorship.
During "Spring Break" the youth took a mission trip to the Calvin Center in Hampton, Georgia. They helped the needy, the sick and the elderly who are unable to care for their houses.
This
summer the youth and adults from our church continued the long-standing tradition of going on a "Vacation with a Purpose." Ministering in Dunlow, West Virginia, the team ran a Vacation Bible Camp for the children and youth of this economically stressed Appalachian community. The focus was on servanthood, humility and love as they renewed and formed relationships with the 40-60 children and youth for whom they ran the camp.
