T
he month of September not only marks the beginning of autumn, but also the
beginning of a new program year. And
new
will be a big word for us headed into
this coming year—and that newness does not merely reside with us welcoming in a new
pastor. In the coming months we welcome:
NEW CONFIRMATION CLASS AND NEW MEMBERS
The 2016-2017 confirmands have already been busy registering for class, and will
begin their journey together at a kick-off session that begins the evening of
Friday,
September 23
. In early October, we welcome participants from the 2015-2016 class
into membership—new members. Many of these will be finishing up faith statements
early this month in preparation for membership. Please join me in praying for these
confirmands and their families—both those who are beginning the journey, and those
who are completing this part of it.
NEWADULT SPIRITUAL FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES
Late this month we are kicking-off four weeks of classes designed for adults that will
be held during the 10:30 worship hour at NPC. Our first class, scheduled for
Sunday,
September 25,
is entitled “Christians in the Marketplace” and will include a panel of
presenters from our congregation sharing from their experiences in the workplace and
helping us consider the question of what faith looks like in the workplace. We follow
this class in October with a two-week series entitled “Reading Genisis” and the fourth
week we have scheduled a sermon talkback following the 10:30 worship service. Come
join us!
NEW MEN’S MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES
We’ll be kicking off a new men’s weekly study beginning
Thursday, September 22
at
7 am here at NPC. This first series is entitled FIRST THINGS, and will be a study of
the Johannine Epistles (1, 2, and 3 John). The Men’s Weekly meeting includes coffee,
pastries, and fruit for those who need to grab a quick bite before work. In addition,
we’re opening the doors at 6:45 am each week for guys to fellowship and grab a bite,
will begin the study promptly at 7:00 am, and then concluding the formal presentation
by 7:45 am so you can get to your 8 o’clock appointments, trains, etc. We’ll be rolling
out additional opportunities for men being planned for the fall throughout this month -
including a paddle tournament in October and a one day event in November.
Grace be with you,
