Dear Members and Friends of NPC,
I am so grateful to God for the privilege of serving here at
NPC! This fall has started off so well. We had a wonderful
Kick Off Celebration with more people than we ever
expected. Fall Bible studies and classes have begun. We
received the youth Confirmation Class as new members
and we have also just received another adult New Member
class.
Behind the scenes there is a good deal of work going on. First,
the Session has been hard at work. In September, Session approved Mission
and Vision Statements (see below). In October they wrapped up the sale of
the LaForge Road manse (the closing was on October 5) and they continue to
work on a three-year budget (2018-2020). And second, the Pastor Nominating
Committee (PNC) began its work in late September and since that time have
met with me and our Presbytery representative from the Committee on Ministry
for an orientation to their work, interviewed many of the staff, and set up
times to speak to members of the congregation in order to move us closer to
calling a new Senior Pastor. Please pray for the Session and the PNC as they are
undertaking significant work on behalf of the congregation. The work that is being
accomplished by both the Session and the PNC is work that is common to times
of transition in a congregation.
By the time you receive this edition of the Spire we will be celebrating the 500th
Anniversary of the Reformation. On the last Sunday of October and through the
month of November our sermon series will focus on the Five Solas – Scripture
Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone, and God’s Glory Alone.
And then, the holiday season – Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, and the New
Year – are just around the corner. Please be sure to note the dates and times
for the Children’s Pageant, Vespers, and Christmas Eve services (remember,
Christmas Eve is on a Sunday this year).
Please continue to pray that God will guide, form, mold, and shape us in this
season of transition.
With much anticipation,
Pastor John H. Seiders
Interim Pastor
Vision Statement: Noroton Presbyterian Church is a body of believers, welcoming all, to
worship Jesus Christ, grow in faith through study, serve in the surrounding communities
and throughout the world, and care for our neighbors as ourselves.
